Located near National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery is not stolen the thunder by the big brother. The arch entrance is not that grand but decent enough. The main foyer is a little disappointing since only a reception desk and a long escalator guiding to the third floor is there. In my imagination, there should dozens of stuffy portraits of politicians and Tudors staring at me.
The noisy hall will make soon turn to walk to the exhibition room unless you are waiting for somebody. The amazing thing is as soon as you walk in a room, it noise will fade thousands miles away. Everybody become so concentrate on every portrait in the frame, no matter it is oil painting, picture or print. The considerate thing is there is a soft bench in each room, so people can really appreciate a picture as long as they like without complaining feet pain.
